Bronson was finally released from that charge in 1987, making it a total of 13 years served for a 7-year sentence because of his bad behavior. Once released, he started a career in bare-knuckle boxing. His promoter at the time thought he would do better if he had a catchy name, so he changed it to Charles Bronson, after the American actor.

Only one year later, in 1988, Bronson was back in jail. This time for planning another robbery. In prison, he would behave as badly as he had the first time, attacking other inmates, and even holding three people as hostages during confrontations with the guards.

Bronson has written many books about his experiences in prison and famous prisoners he met while incarcerated. He calls himself a fitness fanatic because of the many years he spent in solitary confinement. He dedicated a book to exercising in small spaces.

In 2014, he changed his name again to Charles Salvador, after the designer Salvador Dali, in an attempt to distance himself from the violent reputation he had under the Bronson name. He also created the Charles Salvador Art Foundation to help promote his artwork and help those in positions even less fortunate than his own.
